You need to create a new Near wallet on the Shardnet chain. You do not need to connect your VPS / Dedicated Server for this step. You will just use your computer, easy!
Open your browser, e.g. Chrome.
Go to https://wallet.shardnet.near.org/
Click on Create Account button.
- Type the wallet name you would like to have. If you see Congrats! demo.shardnet.near is available you can click on the Reserve My Account ID button to proceed. If not, try some other name.
- Leave Secure Passphrase selected (by default) and click on the Continue button.
- IMPORTANT!
This is important. These 12 words are must have in order to recover / access your wallet. No one (including Near team) can help you to recover your wallet if you lose these words.
Write down all 12 words in order on a paper and keep it in a safe place. Do not lose it and protect it from other’s eyes. Or click on the Copy button and save it in a secure location (e.g. open Notepad, paste it and save). When you are done, click on the Continue button to proceed.
It will ask you type one of the 12 words randomly, (in our example it is word #5) to ensure you noted the words. Type the required word and click on the Verify & Complete button. Now wait and do not click on back button or refresh the page, It will take a couple of seconds.
Now, type all 12 words in order separated with space and click on Find My Account button.
Well done! You have created your wallet and completed Step 1.
Your public key is shown at the top right, it is actually the name of your wallet, not some bunch of numbers and letters. It is one of the beauties of Near: user friendly.
Now let’s proceed with the Step 2: Setting Up Your Node.
